Everton sacked Sam Allardyce earlier this month after just six months in charge at Goodison Park, with Farhad Moshiri keen to appoint a younger, more exciting manager to take the team forward.
Moshiri has a long-standing interest in Silva and tried to appoint him last November after sacking Ronald Koeman. Everton could not agree a compensation package with Watford for Silva and so turned to Allardyce instead.
Six months on Everton are set to finally get their man, with Silva’s representatives due in the UK from Wednesday to tie up a three-year deal to take their man to Goodison Park.
That would mark the end of a long-running managerial saga which has also seen Watford pursue Everton for compensation . Watford’s form collapsed after Everton approached Silva, leading to his dismissal in January, and Watford believe that the cost of Everton’s “illegal approach” entitles them to damages. Bill Kenwright and Keith Harris of Everton met Watford officials last month but no package was agreed.
Watford and Silva are still embroiled in their own legal process following his dismissal but that will have no bearing on Everton’s attempts to appoint him.
Silva rose to prominence guiding Estoril from the brink of bankruptcy into the Europa League before winning the Portuguese Cup with Sporting CP and the Greek title with Olympiakos. During two brief spells in the Premier League he nearly saved Hull City from relegation before starting well at Watford before being dismissed mid-season.
