From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Everton manager David Moyes is to sue a newspaper over comments made by England striker Wayne Rooney in the player's book.

Moyes, under whom Rooney played at Goodison Park as a teenager, has instructed his lawyers to begin proceedings against the Daily Mail who serialised the book.

The Scot's lawyer, Mel Goldberg, said this morning: "There are couple (of comments) but I think the main one is 'Moyes forced me out' (of Everton)."

Goldberg added on Sky Sports: "No manager wants to lose his best player and that was far from the truth."

Moyes is unhappy with several comments in 'Wayne Rooney: My Story So Far'.

Goldberg added on Sky Sports News: "He was surprised because he had a good relationship with Wayne Rooney, he tried desperately hard to him him and to see the headline 'Moyes forced me out' upset him a great deal.

"Their relationship had always been very good."

Rooney left Everton for Manchester United for £30million two years ago after breaking into the Toffees' first team as a 16-year-old and impressing for England at Euro 2004.
