From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

James Milner will not settle for second best at Manchester City after finally sealing his move from Aston Villa. Milner, 24, wants nothing less than the Premier League title in his debut season at Eastlands.

The England midfielder said: "It didn't take too much selling by the boss [Roberto Mancini] when you see the players who are already here and the plans for the club. The last thing he said to me was 'be ready for the next game', and then he said 'be ready to win the Premier League', and that's my ultimate aim – that's what I want to do.

"There's a lot of competition to get there, it's where we all want to be. I'm ambitious and I want to win trophies here and I believe we will.

"I'm ready and raring to go now we've finally got everything done. I can't wait to start a new chapter."

Milner will sit out City's Europa League play-off first-leg match against Timisoara in Romania tonight and instead could make his debut against Liverpool on Monday.
