Ozil, who was signed from Real Madrid for a club record £42million last summer, started the season well but a mixture of injuries and loss of form has put a downer on the German’s debut year in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old has scored five times in the league this year with ten assists but missed several vital games in Arsenal’s tricky run of March fixtures which saw the club’s title challenge fade completely.
Speaking to the German press, Ozil said: “I’ve had ups and downs, but I’m satisfied. Arsenal haven’t won a title for ten years, and next Saturday we can win the FA Cup. For me that would be for me the third cup victory in the third country.”
When asked whether it hurt to be accused of going missing in important games, such as the Champions League tie with Bayern Munich in which he missed a penalty, the midfielder said: “No, sometimes that happens. In Munich I was injured after three minutes, but wanted to continue playing. I’m happy with my first season.”
Ozil has been selected for Germany’s 30-man provisional World Cup squad.
On the tournament in Brazil, he said: “When I stand on the pitch and the whole world is looking at me, I will forget the heat and humidity. Then I can have fun like a little boy. We will cope with the weather.
“Football is a team sport. I want to do my part, but we have to work as a collective. There are some teams that are among the favourites.
“Of course, we want to be world champions. A third place or playing good football is no longer enough for us.”
Ozil has also mentioned about possible wedding nuptials with his girlfriend Mandy Capristo recently. When ask if the two would get married should Germany win the World Cup, he said: “First, I will focus on the World Cup. Then I’ll go on a beautiful holiday. What happens after that, I do not know yet.”
