Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has heaped praise on midfield playmaker Mesut Ozil.

The £42.5million German has come in for strong criticism during his time in north London, but really impressed in the second half of last season, helping the Gunners retain the FA Cup with a superb performance in the final.

Henry, who scored 228 goals for Arsenal in two spells, says Ozil is an "amazing" player.

“Mesut is a very good player, we all know about his quality, we all know about what he has done in the game,” he told the Arsenal website. “He is a world champion, you have to respect that and his vision on the pitch is tremendous.

“He is an amazing player. When he is on song like he was in the FA Cup final, he is difficult to stop.

“When you have the likes of [Olivier] Giroud in the box, Alexis Sanchez running at people and Theo too, Mesut can see a pass and control the game in the same way that Santi [Cazorla] does.”

Henry believes that the likes of Ozil, Sanchez and Cazorla have the quality to see Arsenal challenge for a first Premier League title since 2004.

“I keep on mentioning players, all that we are waiting on is the consistency in the league,” he said.

“I saw some of the players talking about that consistency, and I know they have the quality to do it.”
