From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The £25m summer signing, whose poor form this season has been criticised, came on as a 62nd minute substitute at the Stadium of Light with the scores level at 1-1. However, the Dutchman's introduction failed to have the desired effect and Manchester United eventually lost the match 2-1.
The result dealt a huge blow to Manchester United's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season, with the club remaining six points behind the top four teams having played a game more.
Depay appeared to put the result to the back of his mind so he could celebrate turning 22-years-old. Wearing white trousers and a garish pink jacket, the former PSV Eindhoven player was filmed dancing at a packed party as a huge birthday cake was delivered to him.
A friend posted the video on Instagram along with a message that read: "Celebrating my bro @memphisdepay bday in #rotterdam happy bday!"
Manchester United are next in action on Thursday, when they play Midtjylland in the first-leg of their last-32 contest in the Europa League.
