Rose has started eight games this season after returning from a nine-month absence with another knee injury. But after his last game, against Southampton on Boxing Day, he felt a problem in the same knee and was unable to train.
“After the game against Southampton it was impossible for him to train,” Mauricio Pochettino confirmed last week. “Now we are going to assess him.”
There were fears that Rose was facing another lengthy absence but the problem is understood to be less serious than initially thought, and he simply requires a period of rest and recovery. Rose is facing another two weeks on the sidelines, meaning he should be back in first-team contention at the end of January.
Tottenham travel to Newport County for an FA Cup fourth round match on the weekend of 27-28 January before hosting Manchester United at Wembley on 31 January.
