Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Italy international only joined City from Inter Milan this summer but has already been linked with a return to the San Siro.
AC Milan are seeking reinforcements after losing veteran forward Filippo Inzaghi to a serious knee injury and Balotelli has been a reported target of the Rossoneri.
Balotelli, a lifelong fan of Milan, said to Mediaset: "The likelihood is that I will be at City up to June.
"I have a five-year contract and I can't say anything."
Speculation intensified over Balotelli's future after the 20-year-old striker was spotted on Sunday night having supper with AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani in a restaurant in Milan.
"It's true that I had supper with (Adriano) Galliani after the (Milan) derby," Balotelli said.
"But had I eaten with (Inter president Massimo) Moratti the media would have said that I was going to Inter."
Balotelli did, however, state that he and AC Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic would form a dream partnership.
"Ibrahimovic and I would make a very strong (attacking) duo," he said.
