Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Marcos Alonso has been ruled out for four to six weeks and will undergo surgery today to replace a pin in his foot, Bolton manager Owen Coyle has confirmed.
The Spanish full-back limped off in the second half of Wanderers' game against Blackburn at Ewood Park on Tuesday and left the ground wearing a protective boot.
He was just two games into his playing return after spending three-and-a-half months on the sidelines with a broken metatarsal suffered in the Carling Cup win over Macclesfield in August.
Coyle said: "There was no new fracture but the pin put in when they did the operation to heal the original fracture took a hit and needs to be replaced so he could be out anything up to six weeks but we're hoping for earlier than that.
"The operation will happen today and we'll take it from there.
"He came in for the Fulham game the other night and looked assured and destined for a big future.
"I said to him he can handle the level and be comfortable in the environment so when he comes back he'll be able to kick on with his career."
