Marcos Rojo has left Manchester United and completed a permanent move to Boca Juniors for an undisclosed fee.

Rojo made just 17 appearances for United after signing a new three-year contract in March 2018.

The 30-year-old defender was yet to make an appearance for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this season, having been left out of United’s squad for the Champions League group stages.

Rojo spent the second half of last season on loan at Estudiantes in his native Argentina and was granted permission to find a new club before his Old Trafford contract expired at the end of the season.

His last appearance for United’s first team came in November 2019, as a late substitute in a win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

Rojo was signed in a £16m deal from Sporting Clube de Portugal in the summer of 2014, during Louis van Gaal’s first season in charge.

The Argentina international made 122 appearances for United in total, scoring two goals.

Rojo’s exit follows that of Timothy Fosu-Mensah, the other first-team player to leave United on a permanent basis in the last month, signing for Bayer Leverkusen.

Jesse Lingard has joined West Ham on loan until the end of the season in search of regular first team football, while youngster Facundo Pellistri, Teden Mengi, Tahith Chong and James Garner have also secured new temporary moves.
