"They have both done really well and they could be involved on Saturday," United manager Alex Ferguson said of the two teenagers on the club website.
Ferdinand recieved positive news today after scans revealed he had not cracked a rib as was first feared, meaning he could be fit for United's clash with Arsenal on Tuesday.
Ferguson said: "It's good news with Rio. It is not a cracked bone, he had a bit of bruising on the lung which was why he was coughing up blood but there has been nothing since then."
Defender Gary Neville misses out with a foot injury, while Boro could give a late fitness test to Austrian Emanuel Pogatetz.
Blackburn Rovers travel to Manchester City on Saturday without midfielder David Dunn who has had surgery on his Achilles and will miss the rest of the season.
Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz remains sidelined with a knee injury and is also likely to miss Rovers' four remaining matches.
