The Frenchman’s fitness has come under scrutiny in recent days but Mourinho, who himself only joined the 20-time champions of England in May, has entrusted the world's most expensive player with a return in front of the watching world this evening.
Pogba starts alongside Juan Mata in midfield while Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Zlatan Ibrahimovic continue to lead the line after doing so assuredly during the opening weekend victory against Bournemouth.
David de Gea, the Spain goalkeeper, starts as usual behind a back four consisting of Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw.
For Southampton, meanwhile, manager Claude Puel names Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond in his starting line-up for the trip to face United.
Shane Long starts up front for the Saints while Jose Fonte, the Portugal defender linked with a move to join United this summer, will play from the start in the North West.
