From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ahead of the Premier League meeting between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford this weekend, we caught up with a couple of fans for their take on the match...

Manchester United Fan - Matt Gault

This is our first game after what was a fairly exhausting climactic week in the transfer window and the time for Louis van Gaal to prove the sceptics wrong. United's start to the season has been far from disastrous, but the performance against Swansea was disappointing and there is no better game to bounce back and show some character than against Liverpool.

In the defeat to Swansea, Daley Blind struggled against the physicality and power of Bafetimbi Gomis and if Van Gaal chooses to deploy him at centre-half again, he will face a similar task in stopping Christian Benteke.

Naturally, there will be heavy pressure on Anthony Martial considering his price tag, but eyes will also be firmly fixed on England's record-breaking goalscorer Wayne Rooney, who has looked horribly out of sorts in the Premier League of late. It'll be tight, but I'm going for a 2-1 United win.

Liverpool Fan - Yemi Abiade

Liverpool's embarrassing 3-0 home defeat to West Ham nearly a fortnight ago left Red fans very concerned about the nature of our start to our season. Seven points from the first three games of the campaign and a credible performance away to Arsenal suggested Brendan Rodgers' side had made the improvement it needed.

But a disjointed showing against the Hammers, where the team was out-thought and out-played, indicated that last season's disappointments haven't been completely vanquished.

Bouncing back to winning ways against Manchester United on Saturday will be the perfect response from Rodgers' side. But the task will be difficult given the suspension of Philippe Coutinho, currently our only real creative outlet.

Perhaps Roberto Firmino can be shifted to his favoured position in the centre, behind Christian Benteke, to allow him to weave some magic. It will be needed away at United, but I see us narrowly losing 2-1.
