Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Louis van Gaal has admitted that the former Barcelona goalkeeper will be sold this summer, accusing him of refusing to play in a reserve game last season.
The 33-year-old (pictured last week) was left out of the club's pre-season tour of the US and Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero was also signed by the Dutch coach last week.
But upon returning to training, Valdes found that his kit had been moved out of the first-team dressing room, according to the Daily Mail, with the goalkeeper reportedly training and eating alone.
Van Gaal's harsh stance is said to have upset the club's close-knit Spanish-speaking contingent of David De Gea, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia.
The players are not reported to have spoken to Van Gaal about the issue and while they accept Valdes will be sold, they believe a Champions League and World Cup winner should be treated with more respect.
It remains unclear who will start in goal for the Premier League opener against Tottenham on Saturday, with De Gea still linked with a move to Real Madrid. He looked distracted in a pre-season friendly against Paris Saint-Germain last week.
Romero is yet to play for the club but could appear in a specially arranged friendly this week, played behind closed doors. Youngster Sam Johnstone, 22, had the most time in goal during the tour.
