Admiring a litany of elite Inter strikers over time means Lukaku feels this switch was a while in coming.
But the move to Italy was confirmed after United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a decision which would have meant a role change for Lukaku, one he wasn’t willing to get on board with.
Speaking to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Lukaku explained how that meant his United career was over, while also talking about how he learned from former team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
“[Ciro] Immobile is a great striker. I first learned to speak Italian whilst watching my brother Jordan playing for Lazio on TV.
“I’ve dreamed of Inter for some time. I loved Ronaldo and Adriano, but it was Ibra that taught me everything, especially in our talks on the team bus.
“I believe he will return to Serie A.
“Once I learned that [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer planned to put me on the wing, then I knew my time at Manchester United was over.”
Lukaku has nine goals in Serie A this season, making him the second-highest scorer so far.
