Interim boss Solskjaer made six changes from the win over Leicester a week ago with Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Juan Mata all recalled.
The absence of the match-winner from the King Power that was the most surprising decision but Solskjaer revealed the move was more of a precautionary measure with the last-16 tie with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday on the horizon.
"A couple of changes had to be made," he said before the game. "Rashford has had a dead leg since Leicester. There is a slight concern but hopefully he'll be okay for Tuesday."
Phil Jones and Chris Smalling also start together in the centre of defence while Diego Dalot gets the nod at full-back with Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian injured.
Fulham boss Claudio Ranieri opted for Andre Schurrle, Luciano Vietto and Jean Michael Seri in an attacking line-up.
