Luke Shaw will be included in the Manchester United matchday squad against Swansea City, despite being substituted for failing to follow tactical instructions during his last outing.

Shaw started United’s 2-0 FA Cup victory over Brighton and Hove Albion a fortnight ago but was brought off at half time by a frustrated Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho later criticised Shaw’s performance publicly, claiming that neither he nor right back Antonio Valencia were performing attacking movements practised in training.

Shaw was understood to be upset by this criticism, with reports on Friday suggesting that the 22-year-old asked Mourinho at the time: “Why do you always pick on me?”

Mourinho appeared to deny this version of events during his pre-Swansea press conference before confirming that Shaw will be named on his teamsheet for Saturday.

“He cannot ask me, I told him,” he said, regarding Shaw’s reaction to being substituted. “You are saying he asked me why I changed him. That is what you are saying?

“A report that Luke asked me why I changed him? I told him. He didn’t ask me the question. I told him.”

When asked whether Shaw would still be a United player next season, Mourinho said: “I think so. But I always say the door is open for everyone so no problem for him but I think so.

“Tomorrow, he’s selected,” he added. “He’s in the 18.”

Shaw may retain his place in Mourinho starting line-up following a knee injury to Ashley Young, United’s first-choice left back.

The 32-year-old is a doubt for the visit of Carlos Carvalhal’s side having picked up the problem during the closing stages of England’s 1-1 draw with Italy on Tuesday night.
