Ole Gunnar Solskjaer resurrected United's form at Christmas time after a miserable start to the campaign under Jose Mourinho.
And though there were highlights along the way - namely the extraordinary comeback win against Paris Saint-Germain - the bad has outweighed the good.
A dismal end to the season saw United close out with only two wins from 12 games, including a draw with relegated Huddersfield Town and a final day defeat to doomed Cardiff City.
Solskjaer will be given time to rebuild the club, having only been appointed on a permanent basis in March, but major work is needed to turn United into a force again.
