Your support makes all the difference.Manchester United youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah has come out in support of manager Louis van Gaal, despite the club’s struggles on the pitch this season.
The 18-year-old defender is one of several academy graduates to be given debuts by the under-pressure Dutch coach this season, making his from the bench in the recent home win against Arsenal.
Fosu-Mensah, who has now made four first-team appearances, believes his 64-year-old mentor deserves credit for promoting youth team players and hopes he stays with the club.
"Van Gaal is a man with real personality,” he told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. “I still think it’s great that I was able to make my debut under him. Do I hope he stays? Of course.
"That the club have retained Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs from the Class of ‘92 says a lot about the club and that’s very important."
Van Gaal has come under intense scrutiny in recent months as his side have struggled for form and consistency.
United, who currently sit in 6th-place in the Premier League table, have not threatened to mount a serious title challenge at any point this term and have been knocked out of European competition twice.
The former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich head coach is not expected to stay on next season, even if he achieves a top-four finish, with many expecting Jose Mourinho to take over at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal's side relieved some of the pressure on their beleaguered boss with a 1-0 win at rivals Manchester City at the weekend.
Marcus Rashford, another youth player promoted to the first-team recently, scored the winner and Fosu-Mensah appeared late on as a substitute for full back Matteo Darmian.
