Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Englishman, 30, has been a rare success under the Dutch coach and, bar David De Gea and Chris Smalling, has arguably been United's most consistent performer since he arrived.
But in recent weeks Young has been inexplicably left out of the side, despite United being in the midst of an injury crisis.
Young did have a minor injury in November but despite being fully fit he has not played a single minute in December, with Van Gaal heavily criticised for his team selection in recent weeks.
United are without a win in five, with Van Gaal opting to play Guillermo Varela at right-back in crucial matches against Wolfsburg and Bournemouth and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson against the Cherries.
Young sat on the bench in Germany and saw Borthwick-Jackson and then Nick Powell come on ahead of him with United needing a win to avoid crashing out of the competition.
The former England international is said to be surprised to have been left out of the starting line-up against Bournemouth after Van Gaal indicated he would be in the first XI, according to The Guardian.
WIth Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmian doubtful for the match against Norwich City and Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw definitely missing, Van Gaal will have to play a makeshift back four again at Old Trafford.
