Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal suffered more injury misery last night as two more players were added to their walking wounded.

United's list of injuries now stops after at an incredible 12 first-team players, with Luke Shaw and Angel Di Maria both hurting themselves while in action last night.

Shaw had to be taken off at half-time during England's win over Scotland after picking up knock that caused pain in his hamstring.

Speaking after the game the left-back, who would join four other defenders on the sideline were he to miss the game, said: "We will just have to see but I am hoping to be fit."

Playing against Portugal at Old Trafford, Di Maria went down, unbelievably, under a heavy tackle from Manchester United loanee Luis Nani.

Argentina boss Gerardo Martino said the injury wasn't "anything serious", with Di Maria playing on, but Van Gaal will need his best players fully fit against Arsenal.

Those two injuries added to the three that had already been picked up during the international break.

Michael Carrick pulled out of the England squad with a groin injury, David De Gea dislocated a finger in Spain training and Daley Blind suffered suspected knee ligament damage during the Netherlands' win over Latvia.

That leaves Louis van Gaal with a massive 10 first team players potentially missing for the crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal,

Jesse Lingard remains sidelined, as do defenders Jonny Evans, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Rafael.

Van Gaal will have to rely on his young defenders again to keep out the likes off Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck.

Ashley Young is also out, as is Radamel Falcao.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have four players missing, though two of those are defenders. Olivier Giroud looks set to return, at least to the bench.
