From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to turn to Sol Campbell to ease the defensive crisis engulfing Manchester United according to various reports today.
The former Arsenal and England defender is currently available on a free transfer after his ill-fated spell at Notts County.
It's widely understood that the 35-year-old wants to resurrect his career in the Premier League and it appears that United are ready to offer him a chance.
Ferguson has seen nearly his entire defence sidelined by injury and illness over the last week and against West Ham last weekend was forced to play Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher at the back.
Campbell, who is also being courted by a number of other sides, would provide a quick fix for United. It's understood the Red Devils are ready to offer Campbell the chance to train with the side ahead of the window opening in January to assess his fitness.
United have shown in the past their willingness to take on veterans, with Henrik Larsson's move a success and last night's hat-trick hero Michael Owen proving Ferguson has an ability to get the best out of players late in their career.
