From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The £36m deadline-day signing could play a part for the France national team when they take on Portugal this Friday.
The 19-year-old, who is yet to earn a senior cap, is the only new player in Didier Dechamps' squad and will likely be given a chance to show what he can do. However, his absence from France's training camp in Clairefontaine in order to complete his transfer to Manchester United may have hampered his preparations for the match.
Should he feature in Portugal, he will come up against Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo, who is in line to win his 121st cap.
It was revealed earlier this week that Manchester United captain Rooney had to ask French team-mate Morgan Schneiderlin who Martial was.
"It is normal that Wayne Rooney doesn't know me," Martial said yesterday when told about it.
"I have played a lot in Ligue 1 but I'm happy to go there, he is a big player and next to him I will improve my game a lot."
Martial has made just 29 senior starts in spells at Lyon and Monaco.
Portugal vs France kicks off at 7.45pm (BST)
