Your support makes all the difference.The Stone Roses announced their latest coming this week, a handful of major dates next summer that include a couple of nights at the Etihad, home of Manchester City.
Considering their allegiances when it comes to football, the venue might not have been an obvious choice.
Three of the four founding members of the Mancunian band are devout followers of Manchester United. Singer Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire and bass player Mani have made no secret of their allegiance.
Speaking to The Guardian in 2009, Brown confirmed their support: "Apart from Reni [drummer]. Reni was City because he's an ex-City ball boy. Mani is the most United crazy lad I've met. In 1994, when we were recording Second Coming, Mani was saying, 'We're goin' to have a great year next year. We're going to win the league and we're going to go to America.' That's how he graded his life."
When the Stone Roses were awarded NME's Godlike Genius award Brown, who has held a season ticket in the Stretford End at Old Trafford, insisted the trophy be presented by Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham at the ceremony. And it was.
But for two nights next summer, they will have to put there support for United to one side to play at the home of Manchester City. Among the tunes almost certain to be included in the set list will be Stone Roses classic This Is The One, a song played prior to every Manchester United game at Old Trafford.
