Sergio Aguero is still "a few weeks" away from returning for Manchester City despite recovering from Covid-19, Pep Guardiola has said.

Aguero has missed City's last nine games while observing a period of self-isolation, first after coming into contact with somebody who had tested positive for the virus, then after contracting it himself.

The 32-year-old has now tested negative but is yet to return to full training and will not be available for City's trip to Burnley on Wednesday evening.

"He is still not training on the field," Guardiola said. "He started to move a little yesterday but he will need a few weeks to come back.

"He is negative, this is the most important thing. He is healthy again and now he will come back again. As the top scorer it is important for us to have him back."

Nathan Ake is also missing for the trip to Turf Moor with a muscular injury, while Kevin De Bruyne remains sidelined.

City's title challenge faces an important week, as they prepare to visit Anfield and champions Liverpool on Sunday.

Guardiola, however, refused to look too far ahead and is focusing only on the meeting with Burnley due to the unpredictability of the season so far.

"Six weeks ago we were not contenders for anything, six weeks later we are contenders. Everything can change so quickly," he said.

"We can drop five points in two games in three days. It has happened to other teams so it can happen to you.

"So, all I am concerned about is Burnley, not the runs we have achieved, only Burnley."
