After scoring Manchester City’s record-breaking goal against Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday night, Bernardo Silva has set himself a personal milestone to hit in the final game of the season on Sunday.

City beat the South Coast club 3-1 at the Etihad to break the Premier League record for the most wins, most goals and most points in a season.

They are now on 97 points – and could become the first side achieve 100 points in an English top-flight season away to Southampton on Sunday – surpassing Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea of 2004/05.

Their 31 wins this season passes Chelsea’s total of that season but one more win would beat the top-flight record set by Tottenham Hotspur’s double-winning team of 1960/61.

Bernardo scored the second goal of the night, the one which broke the record previously held by the Chelsea team from 2009/10, as City reached 105 goals for the season, and he has now set a personal target of scoring 10 goals himself by the end of the season, having got his ninth against Brighton.

“Of course. If possible, yes,” he said. “It wouldn't be my best, in Monaco I think it was 11 and that was my best. I'll try to do it.”

If Bernardo achieves that goal, he will become the seventh City player to hit double figures this season, after Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane, Kevin De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus and David Silva.

“The way we play, everyone is important so everyone - as you can see [against Brighton] - right back Danilo and midfielder Fernandinho scored,” he added. “Everyone is involved in scoring goals. It might be difficult for Ederson to score but we will try.”

Yaya Toure waved goodbye to the Etihad during the game in his final appearance for the club and Bernardo paid tribute to the Ivorian’s contribution in turning the club into the Premier League juggernaut they are today.

“Obviously Yaya is a Man City legend, it was fantastic for all us and for me personally to share this moment with him,” Bernardo added. “It's been here for such a long time, he's won so many trophies with City, he’s been one of the best players ever for this club and to able to enjoy this moment, his last game here at home with the fans and him, was fantastic.”
