Manchester City want Vincent Kompany to end his career at the Etihad Stadium - and are willing to offer him a long-term contract to secure his future.

28-year-old Kompany is regarded as central to City's plans as they move forward. The Belgian only signed his last contract in 2012, but such is City's desire to keep him until the end of his career that they have put a new offer of six years at £200,000 a week on the table.

Kompany has been a fixture at the heart of the Blue Moon defence since signing from Hamburg in 2008. Regarded as one of the world's best centre backs, his standing within the game rose even higher this summer as he led Belgium to a World Cup quarter final.

Those performances in Brazil coupled with Kompany's magisterial club form has reportedly caught Barcelona's eye - but City will hope that the new deal wards off anything more than casual interest from the Catalan giants.

In addition to keeping Kompany happy, City are believed to be close to finally concluding a £32 million deal for the Porto centre back Eliaquim Mangala.

The French centre back is a vital piece of Manuel Pellegrini's defensive puzzle, with neither the ageing Martin Demichelis or the promising but prone to error Matija Nastasic offering the Chilean the type of long-term defensive rock he craves.
