City have been fined £35,000 and Chelsea £100,000 after admitting a charge for “failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour.”
The fracas occurred in the fifth minute of injury-time at the Etihad Stadium on December 3 after City striker Sergio Aguero poleaxed Chelsea defender David Luiz with a late, high challenge.
Aguero was sent off for the challenge and later joined by team mate Fernandinho who was dismissed for his involvement in the altercation that subsequently broke out between the two teams.
League leaders Chelsea, who have claimed nine successive victories to top the table by three points, won the game 3-1.
Their fine is heavier than City's because of previous disciplinary indiscretions.
It was the fifth time in 19 months that Chelsea was charged by the FA for failing to control its players.
City have fallen off the pace in recent weeks and are seven points adrift of Chelsea in fourth place following Saturday's 4-2 defeat at champions Leicester City.
