Sergio Aguero scored all of Manchester City's four goals as the champions saw off Tottenham at the Etihad.
Aguero scored two penalties and missed a third for the home side.
Christian Eriksen equalised from Aguero's opener before the Argentine put City back in front from the spot.
Aguero than missed his second penalty before Roberto Soldado fluffed his own spot kick for the away side.
Federico Fazio, on his league debut, was sent off for Spurs after a challenge on Aguero and the Argentine picked himself up to slot home his third penalty attempt and complete his hat-trick.
He added a fourth to secure the points for the home side.
