The Reds also have a significantly worse goal difference than United, so it would take something of a minor miracle to secure a top-four berth.
With this being Steven Gerrard’s final home game in a Liverpool shirt before he departs for America, Saturday is likely to be an emotional day at Anfield for supporters and the team will aim to secure victory for their captain. The Reds have netted six goals in their last two home league meetings with Crystal Palace and have won six of their last seven league games at Anfield, so understandably come into this fixture as favourites.
Palace’s form, meanwhile, has tailed off since their top-flight safety was confirmed. Alan Pardew’s side have lost their last four league matches, netting just once in that poor run.
24 of the 42 points Palace have won this season have come away from home, but they are not expected to add to that on Merseyside this weekend, with the hosts expected to give Gerrard a fitting send off.
