Unai Emery, meanwhile, has left Mesut Ozil out of the side due to an injury as one of four changes. Ozil was left out of Arsenal’s Carabao Cup defeat against Tottenham for ‘tactical reasons’ but was reinstated as captain for the 3-1 victory over Burnley days later. The German playmaker played 45 minutes against Brighton on Boxing Day but was withdrawn at half-time and has not been included in Emery’s team at Anfield.
Matteo Guendouzi, Laurent Koscielny and Alexandre Lacazette drop to the bench as Shkodran Mustafi, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Iwobi come into the side.
