The Brazilian injured his calf in the season opener against Norwich, with newly-signed Adrian pressed into duties in goal in his absence.
The Spaniard’s error against Southampton had some fans hoping Liverpool‘s first-choice stopper might be back in action soon, but Klopp has confirmed that Alisson will not be in selection contention this weekend.
“Alisson is not that close. He’s in a good mood but there’s no date in my mind.
“He can train properly. “I had lunch with him today, at least he can eat.”
Liverpool face Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday after winning their first two games, and Klopp praised former Arsenal player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ahead of the fixture.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, who signed a new contract with the club this week, returned in April after missing a year of action with a knee ligament injury, and Klopp believes the midfielder is in the best condition since arriving at Liverpool.
“It was a very good week for him and for us. He’s in the best shape I remember and mentally is very good.”
The return to fitness of Oxlade-Chamberlain has deepened the Liverpool squad despite a relative lack of summer reinforcement.
Klopp has underlined the importance for his team not to be complacent and keep pushing onwards.
“We were a bit lucky in the penalty shoot-out against Chelsea, but I was completely happy about that.
“Southampton was one of the most challenging games I have had. Intensity wise, we were there.
“The best team spirit in the world isn’t just about being together, we want everybody to be pushing each other. That’s what we have.”
Naby Keita is not fit for the Arsenal game, while Dejan Lovren may not be involved with the Croatian continuing to be linked with a move to Europe before the continental transfer window closes.
