Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Fortunately for Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling and Lazar Markovic, they were taking part in the 'dizzy penalty' challenge, the latest internet craze that has seen professional players look like the rest of us.
The challenge involves making yourself so dizzy, by running around in a circle, that you can no longer stand up, then running up and attempting to score from the spot.
Brazilian star Coutinho was first up and didn't even manage to make it to the ball before falling over, before he got back up and fired wired.
Lazar Markovic was next and although he managed to keep his footing he too couldn't find the target, instead firing over.
Raheem Sterling was next and he too struggled to keep his footing and although he did hit the target, his shot was so weak it barely made it to the goalkeeper.
Finally was Jordon Ibe, he spared the blushes of the others.
Ibe looked almost completely composed as he stepped up and slotted to the keeper's right.
