Trent Alexander-Arnold believes he is still a ‘few weeks’ away from returning to full fitness as Liverpool enter an important part of the season in their Premier League title bid.

The defender missed games against Crystal Palace, Leicester and West Ham after injuring his knee against Brighton in early January.

Alexander-Arnold returned to action in Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Bournemouth and has been a part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad in their Marbella training camp.

While the 20-year-old is delighted to be back with the first team, he acknowledges he still has some way to go before he returns to his best.

"I feel good; it was good to get a bit of fitness in there at the weekend and that'll help me get back to full fitness and to push on and hopefully start a few games in the next few weeks," he told the club’s website.

"It was something I've never really experienced before in being injured.

"It was something new and something to get my head around, so it was tough to me. But it's thanks to the manager, the physios and the medical department in helping me get back so quickly - ahead of schedule."

Without their first-choice right-back, Liverpool dropped points against Leicester and West Ham in 1-1 draws that allowed Manchester City to claim a temporary lead in the Premier League, although Klopp’s side have a game in hand.

"It was difficult because you feel like you've got no control at all, whereas when you're on the pitch, you have a little bit the sense of being able to influence the game, impact the game in some way," he added.

"It was difficult for me knowing I wasn't going to be able to influence the games at all, but I was there and trying to support the lads as well as I could.

"We didn't get the results we wanted, but we remained undefeated and bounced back at the weekend with three points."

James Milner and Fabinho have resumed training with the first team in Spain after separate issues caused them to miss the first session.

Fabinho suffering a minor muscle complaint, while Milner trained away from the rest of the squad following an illness.

A statement read: "Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rhian Brewster, Ben Woodburn, Nat Phillips and Xherdan Shaqiri maintained their rehabilitation programmes during the morning session in Spain.

"Meanwhile, James Milner and Fabinho resumed training alongside their team-mates."
