From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

For Liverpool it has been a mixed bag of a summer and supporters could be fearing a mixed bag of a season to come.
There have been some excellent signings so far but they have all been overshadowed by the departure of Luis Suarez. Having thought Champions League qualification would be enough to retain the services of the Uruguay international, it turned out nothing could beat the lure of Barcelona. It does however mean that there is £75m that would otherwise have been unavailable.
After coming so close to the title last term, opponents won't be taking Brendan Rodgers' side lightly this time around. There is also the strain of playing European football this season. Some players, such as Raheem Sterling, should improve on their performances last season, but for others, such as captain Steven Gerrard, their career is on a downward trajectory. Liverpool's season ahead is a difficult one to predict.
Here, we take a look at those who have arrived at the club, who might still be on their way and a look at their pre-season plans.
New signings
Adam Lallana (Southampton, £23m)
Has been excellent for Southampton for a few seasons now and deserved his chance at a top club. Should bring added quality and creativity to the midfield.
Emre Can (Bayer Leverkusen, £9.8m)
The Germany Under-21 player looks a real prospect and Liverpool were ready to take a gamble on the midfielder by activating his release clause.
Rickie Lambert (Southampton, £4m)
Not exactly one for the future, but there's no denying the England international's ability to find the back of the net. Offers something different.
Possible new arrivals?
Pre-season plans
Liverpool have a packed schedule as they look to get in shape for the new season. Brondby and Preston are up first before things get a bit more glamorous. A trip to the United States will see them take on Roma, Olympiacos, Manchester City and AC Milan. Just before the season gets going they play Borussia Dortmund at Anfield.
