Liverpool striker Christian Benteke is in a race to be fit for the visit of his former side Aston Villa.

Tim Sherwood's side come to Anfield on Saturday, but after Benteke had to be withdrawn at half-time in the 1-1 draw with Norwich on Sunday, there is no guarantee their former striker will be lining up against them.

The Belgian international had to be replaced after 45 minutes at the weekend due to a a tight hamstring that will be assessed.

In an interview that will be broadcast on LFCTV tonight, the 24-year-old spoke about his one and only goal for Liverpool so far, which came in the 1-0 win over Bournemouth at Anfield.

"I was proud of myself, because every week you want to play at Anfield and score in front of the fans, and have them singing your name," he said.

Before the visit of Aston Villa, Liverpool host Carlisle in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday.
