Jurgen Klopp has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association for running onto the pitch to celebrate Divock Origi's 96th-minute winner for Liverpool against Everton at Anfield on Sunday.
Origi's header after Virgil van Dijk's sliced shot had bounced twice off the crossbar and evaded Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford sparked wild Liverpool celebrations, with Klopp sprinting onto the pitch to embrace goalkeeper Alisson.
After the match Klopp expressed regret for his actions and said he had apologised to Everton manager Marco Silva, but the FA believe the German's conduct merits retrospective action.
In a statement, an FA spokesperson said: "Jurgen Klopp has been charged with misconduct relating to his behaviour in the 96th minute of the game between Liverpool and Everton yesterday [2 December 2018]. He has until 6pm on 6 December 2018 to respond to the charge."
Victory enabled Liverpool to remain only two points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City after 14 matches, while Everton have not won at Anfield since September 1999.
"I have to apologise because I didn't want to be disrespectful but I couldn't stop myself," Klopp told Sky Sports. "It just happened!
"The plan was not to run [onto the pitch to celebrate]! When I chose to stop I was close to Alisson. He was surprised! It was the last situation of the game. Both teams delivered an unbelievable fight.
"If I could describe it [how he feels] then I would have control over it. We don't want to look for excuses but that's how it is. I'm not sure what the FA has to do in a situation like this but I will have to wait.
"The game was with unbelievable intensity. Both teams had chances. Both goalkeepers had outstanding performances. Both teams tried really to play football. No harsh things. The game was really good.
"In the end it was a very weird goal. I can't imagine the disappointment of Everton. But we got it and we will take it. It is a brilliant night."
