From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow has moved to assure fans the Anfield club will not be forced to sell their star players over the summer.

An early exit from the Champions League, and the real possibility of missing out on a place in next season's competition, are set to hit Liverpool's finances hard.

That has led to speculation the Reds could listen to offers for the likes of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres at the end of the campaign.

But Purslow insists those rumours are far wide of the mark.

"Nothing could be further from the truth than reports which suggested the club would choose to sell its star footballers. Full stop," he told the Sun.

"The idea that we would ever wish to sell our top players is completely against the interests of this club.

"In fact our key priority since the summer has been to secure our senior players on long term improved contracts.

"We remain of the view that our starting eleven compares with anybody in the Premier League.

"Our plan is to try and improve the team, not to be so stupid as to reduce the quality of our squad."
