After suffering opening weekend defeats by Hull City and Liverpool respectively, bit Leicester and Arsenal were desperate to get off the mark and bag their first points of the campaign – and it showed.
An end-to-end draw played out between two sides that appear some way short of the quality offered within the ranks of Manchester United and Manchester City, and it was a case of who could draw blood first with three points on the line. In the end, neither were able to, though Leicester will feel the more aggrieved after two controversial decisions made by referee Mark Clattenburg.
The first saw him choose not to hand Francis Coquelin a second yellow card after he lunged in on Riyad Mahrez, having already been booked for a foul in the first half on Jamie Vardy. The midfielder escaped sanction, but worse – for the Leicester faithful – was to follow.
After substitute Ahmed Musa broke down the left, Hector Bellerin appeared to trip him up, though Clattenburg waved him to his feet and the match ended in a stalemate.
