The 29-year-old has been a staple of the intrepid Foxes side who currently sit atop of the Premier League table by five points and was named the Danish Footballer of the Year last week.
With only Mark Schwarzer, 14 years Schmeichel’s senior, in reserve, Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri would endure a considerable headache if his No 1 choice was to suffer an injury over the course of their seven-match title run-in.
But the Denmark goalkeeper, in the squad for the friendly against Scotland at Hampden Park on Tuesday night, confirmed on Twitter that any concerns over his fitness are premature.
Schmeichel said: “Just to confirm: I have NOT withdrawn from the Denmark squad and I have NOT hurt my hamstring. I left training today (Sunday) as a precaution.”
Ranieri, enjoying the international break in his native Rome, has been able to watch on as a number of his title-chasing side enjoy successful stays with their respective national squads.
