From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Louis van Gaal spent almost £160m on new faces for Manchester United this summer, but he should really have bought a couple of centre-backs, with United twice surrendering two-goal leads in their astonishing 5-3 defeat by Leicester City today.

In one of the craziest second-half spells in Premier League history, United went 3-1 ahead against newly-promoted Leicester City at the King Power Stadium after 57 minutes, before David Nugent pulled one back from the penalty spot five minutes later.

New signing Esteban Cambiasso then equalised with a powerful effort two minutes after, Jamie Vardy made it 4-3 with 11 minutes remaining and then in the 83rd minute Leonardo Ulloa scored his second goal of the game from the penalty spot.

WHEN THE GOALS WENT IN

13 min: Van Persie (Leic 0-1 Man U)
