Laws set to learn his Turf Moor fate
Brian Laws' future as Burnley manager was in grave doubt last night as he attended a board meeting at Turf Moor due to decide his fate. Burnley had high hopes of avoiding the drop when Laws was appointed after Owen Coyle's departure in January and despite the 48-year-old's confident talk about rebuilding in the Championship next season, his chairman Barry Kilby is believed to be harbouring serious doubts about whether he is the man to take the club on.
Rumours of a clause in Laws' contract that he would face dismissal if the Clarets failed to hit a 29-point target have never been confirmed or denied. Burnley's last-day defeat of Tottenham took them to 30 points and saw them end the season in 18th place with a resulting £800,000 bonus but that was not enough to convince many fans. Some applauded Spurs' fans' chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning" on Sunday.
