From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker has signed a new contract to keep him at White Hart Lane until 2017.

The England international, who was last month voted PFA Young Player of the Year, has been one of the north London club's most impressive performers this season.

The 21-year-old, who spent last season on loan at QPR and Aston Villa, has started 25 of Spurs' 36 games in the Barclays Premier League this term.

A statement on the Tottenham's official website read: "The club is delighted to announce that Kyle Walker has signed a new contract which runs until 2017.

"Following successful loans with QPR and Aston Villa last season, Kyle returned to White Hart Lane at the start of the current campaign and has appeared in 47 of our 51 games to date, scoring key goals against Arsenal and Blackburn Rovers.

"His performances have not gone unnoticed, with his fellow professionals voting him the PFA Young Player of the Year last month ahead of the likes of Sergio Aguero and Danny Welbeck.

"Kyle has also been recognised at international level this year with his first two full caps for England."

Walker started his career at home-town club Sheffield United before joining Tottenham in 2009, although he was loaned back to the Yorkshire club for the 2009/10 campaign.

He has broken into the Tottenham team this season and made his England debut in the 1-0 friendly win over Spain last November.

Last weekend he scored a brilliant free-kick in Tottenham's 2-0 win at home to Blackburn.
