From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Gerald Krasner, the Leeds United chairman, has admitted the club's owners would welcome new investment but would not comment on speculation that a new takeover bid is imminent.

A report claimed that the club have accepted an offer in principle from a consortium headed by the haulage magnate and lifelong fan Steve Parkin. Krasner's consortium completed their takeover of the debt-ridden club five weeks ago and have stated since that additional outside finance would be welcomed.

Krasner however would not comment directly on the report which claims the consortium are ready to pump in £20m to take a controlling interest.

"We don't comment about our personal financial affairs with people in the press," Krasner said. "But we have always said we would do anything in the interests of Leeds United. If Mr Abramovich mark II came along we would be foolish not to sit down and talk.

"But we have a strategy we are working on. Stage one of that strategy was to save the club and now we are on to stage two of that strategy."
