Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan has apologised to his club's fans for comments praising Andy Carroll's move to Liverpool, admitting he is "getting quite sick of the whole saga".
Reds fan Nolan was interviewed by Liverpool TV about his friend's £35million move from Newcastle to Anfield this week, saying he was "delighted" Carroll was joining a "fantastic club".
The comments apparently caused consternation on Tyneside, with Nolan quick to play down the comments.
"If fans don't like it, I apologise," he said.
"It was never meant to affect them. But Liverpool is a great club and everyone knows that.
"There's no-one more disappointed than me.
"Not only have we lost a top player but I've lost a good mate who was very close."
Nolan added: "To be honest, I'm getting quite sick of the whole Andy Carroll saga. I just want to put it to bed and get on with it.
"The last thing I want is to start upsetting our fans because they have been brilliant."
