From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Jose Mourinho said that he would not allow himself to be obsessed by the Champions League during his second spell at Stamford Bridge.
In his first three years at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea lost two dramatic semi-finals to Liverpool, in 2005 and 2007, and were knocked out at the last-16 by Barcelona in 2006. Although Mourinho won the trophy at Porto and Internazionale, his three years at Real Madrid were similarly frustrating, with three semi-final defeats.
But Mourinho said earlier he was experienced enough to understand the unpredictability of knock-out European football.
“By having, I think, 108 Champions League matches and so many consecutive seasons in Champions League competition, I learned that not just the details make the difference, but also that sometimes it's not when you're team is in the best moment that you win. Sometimes you win and you don't know really why you do, and sometimes you play well and you lose and don't know why.
“Champions League cannot be an obsession for me. I've won it twice, and would be happy to win it again, but Chelsea have won it too. So it's not an obsession. Let's work, with quality and work hard, and we'll be there fighting for that objective. One day it will happen.”
