From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Manchester United paid Mourinho and his staff around £20m to leave Old Trafford last year.
The move to ditch Pochettino will cost Daniel Levy a similarly exorbitant figure.
Mourinho has a trusted group around him, though he has lost Rui Faria, his long-time assistant, who left United in 2018 after 17 years alongside his mentor.
Joao Sacramento will be his assistant manager, with Nuno Santos to become goalkeeper coach, both joining from Lille. Who else will join Mourinho at Spurs?
Mourinho said earlier this year that he intends to assemble a different group of staff.
“I’m thinking, I’m studying, I’m producing things all the time,” Mourinho said.
“I go to different sports and I analyse them, I meet my future staff because my future staff is going to be different than my previous because I think it is the moment for a few changes.”
Joao Sacramento
The Portuguese will be Mourinho's assistant manager, joining from Lille, where he occupied the same role under Christophe Galtier.
Nuno Santos
The Portuguese also arrives from Lille, after working with the Canadian national team, and will be the new Spurs goalkeeper coach.
Ricardo Formosinho
A scout at United, a former midfielder with an extensive managerial career, including a spell in charge of Kuala Lumpur.
Giovanni Cerra
An analyst at United, Cerra once received a telling off from Mourinho at Old Trafford for failing to deliver adequate instructions to Paul Pogba before a Europa League game against Zorya Luhanska.
Carlos Lalín
Another key man on physical preparation, the Venezuelan was a fitness coach at Old Trafford under Mourinho.
