Your support makes all the difference.Jose Mourinho criticised the Manchester United fans for bemoaning a backwards pass by Scott McTominay in his side’s 2-1 win over Liverpool, insisting the young midfielder made “all the right decisions”.
The Portuguese had been asked about the crowd’s clamour for match-winner Marcus Rashford to more regularly start games, and used that to specifically make a point of how McTominay had been received. With United under pressure, the 21-year-old played the ball back towards his own goal, much to the audible display of the Old Trafford support.
“The fans they can do what they want,” Mourinho initially said when asked about Rashford.
“I am not upset at all with that reaction. I am upset with the reaction they had with Scott McTominay, a kid with [21] years old was making all the right decisions and they want him to make the wrong decisions, when he decides to break the intensity of the game
“It was a wonderful solution and the fans reacted against the kid. That was the bad one. To react against me, that was the problem.”
McTominay was to be benched for the Liverpool game, but an injury to Paul Pogba saw him brought back into the side for a measured performance.
