The Chelsea manager is under renewed pressure after his side lost 3-1 to Southampton on Saturday, their fourth Premier League defeat in eight games this season.
The result saw Mourinho's odds of being given the boot shorten to a new low. Last month, shortly after he agreed a new contract at Stamford Bridge, it was possible to place a bet at 33/1 that the Portuguese coach would be the next Premier League manager to be axed. However, those odds are now as low at 3/1 with some bookmakers.
Yesterday morning he was the third favourite of the 20 Premier League managers to go, but by the end of the day, the two in front of him - Dick Advocaat and Brendan Rodgers - had left their posts at Sunderland and Liverpool respectively.
Mourinho said after the result against Southampton he will not walk away by his own volition, but must be sacked by the club.
"I don't run away," he said after the loss to Southampton.
"If the club wants to sack me, they have to sack me because I'm not running away from my responsibility and my team."
Since last night, Newcastle manager Steve McClaren has been installed as the new favourite for the chop. Chelsea will resume their Premier League campaign after the international break with a home game against Aston Villa.
