From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has pleaded with John Terry's critics not to jump to the conclusion that the England captain is guilty of racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand.

The Football Association (FA) have launched an investigation into an alleged racial slur by Terry towards Ferdinand in Sunday's west London derby at Loftus Road.

Terry denies the accusation, but should the FA charge the 30-year-old and find him guilty, his captaincy of both club and country would be in serious jeopardy.

Terry has received a huge barracking on Twitter for his alleged conduct, but Redknapp stressed today that everyone should wait until the outcome of the FA investigation before deciding whether or not the Chelsea centre-back is guilty of the alleged racist slur.

Redknapp, whose team face QPR on Sunday, said: "I think we have to wait and see what comes out of it. You can't pre-judge what has happened.

"There is no room in life, let alone football for racism. It is not what we want.

"I don't want to be pre-judging what John did. I wouldn't have a clue whether he did it or not. Only he knows that. It's up to the FA to get to the bottom of what happened."
